Slow

We had a fairly slow weekend around here, which mainly revolved around eating meals and being together.
Daddy found a whole box of the old computer paper at the back of the garage, so Oscar was able to do plenty of drawing.
I started the infamous 3 Hour Sweater and rattled it down again because I didn't like the look of it.
Oscar and Daddy tackled the jungle (some of it) at the bottom of the garden.
And they made a bed for some organic bulbs and seeds I have on order (autumn planting garlic, onion and broad beans). But mostly we hung out together. So when I woke this morning with a whole day of house cleaning ahead of me I was fairly unexcited. Then I remembered about a poem I saw over at Betty's Bletherins.

Mother, O Mother, come shake out your cloth,
Empty the dustpan, poison the moth,
Hang out the washing, make up the bed,
Sew on a button and butter the bread.
Where is the mother whose house is so shocking?
She’s up in the nursery, blissfully rocking.
Oh, I’ve grown as shiftless as Little Boy Blue,Lullaby, rockabye, lullaby loo.
Dishes are waiting and bills are past due
Pat-a-cake, darling, and peek, peek-a-boo
The shopping’s not done and there’s nothing for stew
And out in the yard there’s a hullabaloo
But I’m playing Kanga and this is my Roo
Look! Aren’t his eyes the most wonderful hue?
Lullaby, rockaby lullaby loo.
The cleaning and scrubbing can wait till tomorrow
But children grow up as I’ve learned to my sorrow.
So quiet down cobwebs; Dust go to sleep!I’m rocking my baby and babies don’t keep.

Shades Of Autumn

To kick off the challenge I have used photo's taken over the last month. Next week I will try and take enough photo's to fit in with the colour of the week 'yellow'. Please join in and link your photo's in my comments too.

Happy Winds Day

I had promised Oscar a trip to the park yesterday. The problem was, we don't seem to have a local park (odd for this city, so I may be wrong). The rain was blowing through in the wind, but he was undeterred so we took the bus to the victorian bandstand and went to the swing-park.
Eventually the wind did get the better of him though so we walked along Riverside until we found the penguins. And when you find penguins, you usually find a pirate ship.
By then we were both a bit wind swept and tired so we headed home (via Tesco for a wee, toilet training going so well, some organic snacks and a pumpkin).
Oscar was pooped when we got back and so was I, so he slept and I did some knitting. Its a good thing I had my new hat pinned on though because it was gale force out there and it would have been gone with the wind for sure. Are you guys still having a heatwave?

Unseasonable

Newpiccys 058

On Thursday and Friday of last week you could find me nursing a sick child in a heatwave (by Scotland's standards anyway). I was back to cotton dresses and the oscillating fan was on full blast. By the weekend the sun had gone although it was still warm-ish for October, and by today its back to wind and rain.  Its no wonder we are feeling out of sorts, it seems wrong to have pumpkins and ice Lolly's at the same time.

I guess that's it though and we can go back to sweet potato curry, leaf and chestnut collecting and coats. I look forward to Autumn, it means my favorite season, winter, is just around the corner. I don't mind the odd bit of sunshine in the rain, because with it comes rainbows, but on the whole, I like to pick a season and stick to it.

October

So its October already. September seemed to fly by for us, with one of us at least feeling ill at any one time. Lets hope this month has a bit more to offer than runny noses and sore throats.

On The Mend

Oscar has been quite poorly this week, and despite his normal good humour its been quite a difficult time for him.  One panicky call to NHS 24 at midnight on Wednesday and a trip to the Doc on Thursday seems to have sorted him out and I can report he is officially on the mend.
