A YARN

Knitting

I have been a bit silent here over the last week, and that's because I have been down with a horrible chest and head cold.
I have been staggering through the days and realizing that my husband working in another city (which is about 2 hours away), means that there is no help here when I feel horrible.
Anyway, on to the kitting, or crochet as it is this week, and as you can see I made myself a 'granny triangle'? shawl.
I had about 150g of the chunky blue yarn left over from Oscars birthday vest (see last week's yarn along), and so in my cold feeling a bit sorry for myself state I decided a cozy shoulder shawl was just the ticket.
I really cant crochet much, so I went to You Tube and watched a tutorial on how to make a granny triangle (as opposed to a granny square), and off I went.
It is very cozy and just right for a project which does not need much thought.
I am going to do one more round in grey and I am thinking of fringes for the 2 shorter sides, what do you think?

Reading

Sitting At The Feet Of The Rabbi Jesus
By Anne Spangler and Lois Tverberg

I have wanted to read this book for a long time, but I did not want to read anything that would mix me up when I was trying to learn Doctrine from my Scriptures.
Now I have started reading, I can see that this book if fairly compatible with a lot of the Doctrine from our church, (which is fantastic).
Because we are a 'restored' church we do follow a lot of the thoughts and principles of the ancient Jews (with the Christ being the notable exception of course).
Anyway, the authors are Christian and so there is no doubt in their minds that Jesus was and is The Son of God and so the book is just brilliant to read.
The cover says it can transform your faith.
Well, I don't need my faith transformed but it can certainly make you feel more connected to the living Christ. Just wonderful.

I finished the little blue vest for Oscar this week,
slightly late for his birthday but better late than never.
I am pleased with how it turned out and Oscar said 'its adorable', so, good result.

Reading

A Year Of Biblical Womanhood  by Rachael Held Evans

I have been really enjoying this book.
I know the author has received as much praise as criticism because
some people felt she was making a mockery of the Bible.
I saw it for what it clearly was, a book about the woman not a book about the Bible.

Some of it was ridiculously silly, like the 3 days she camped in a tent when her
'womanhood was upon her' (because she was apparently unclean),
but as silly as it was, it still taught her something about the life for women back
in Biblical times.
This is mostly about Jewish laws and customs, as one would expect from
this time period and I found the whole history
of women in the Bible quite fascinating.

The Simple Woman's Daybook - February

Outside my window -
The sky is grey and there is a light drizzle, often connected to the seaside in winter.

I am thankful for -
My family and my home and the love I feel, for and from, others and The Lord my God, and Jesus The Christ, who are always present these days.

In the kitchen -
We have lots of cake leftover from Oscar's birthday/party. The lunch dishes need washed and dried and the washing needs put over to the dryer (it seems these things are a constant)

I am wearing -
An ankle length dress,  cream in colour with narrow black horizontal stripes. A grey chunky 2 button 3/4 sleeve cardigan. Nothing on my feet. My wedding ring and engagement ring and tiny sliver ball earrings.

 I am creating -
A black crochet shawl for myself, and plans in my head for a new project

I am going -
No place today because my Home Teachers from the Church are calling round and then the missionaries are coming for a lesson and then it will be bath time and dinner time and bedtime.

I am wondering -
If I will ever be free of anemia and shake off this tiredness (the afternoon fog of tiredness is rolling in)

 I am reading -
A Year Of Biblical Womanhood by Rachael Held Evans (and loving it)

I am hoping -
That the rest of the day will be accomplished with peace and happiness

I am looking forward to -
Being in my husbands arms when he returns from work tonight (and kisses from my baby boy who is 5 years old now)

I am learning -
About The Creation in our family scripture reading

Around the house -
Oscar is playing Minecraft and filming himself on my new Flip Video camera.  Aimee has her head in her laptop as usual. The cats are asleep on the back of the sofa and all other rooms are empty.

I am pondering -
The phrase 'Biblical Selectiveness'  and what a strange insult it is to throw at one faith or another. I know we don't practice many things which are in the Bible, and nor would we want to

A favorite quote for today -
“People often avoid making decisions out of fear of making a mistake.  Actually, the failure to make decisions is one of life’s biggest mistakes.”  – Rabbi Noah Weinberg

One of my favorite things -
The blanket I crochet for myself for use on the sofa - I use it ALL the time and it is so cosy.

A few plans for the rest of the week -
To read lots, to knit and crochet, to start a sewing project, to work out a meal plan based on a new cook book, and to be mindful and pray with real purpose.

A peek into my day -

Oscar Is 5

▲ Oscar Is 5 ! ▲

Oh, where oh where has the time gone. And what a cliche mama I am. don't all parents and grandparents say that? He had a wonderful day with friends over in the afternoon and the missionaries here for dinner (including our special missionary Elder McCarthy who taught us the Gospel and did my confirmation). It was a great day.

HELLO !
And welcome to Film It Friday

Let me say first off, I have ordered a much beloved by bloggers 'Flip Camera' and unfortunately it has not arrived in the post yet.
The sound in this video is very fuzzy, but Oscar is cute, and if you have any
interest in seeing a bit of our part of the world here in Scotland then its still worth viewing.
I am hoping to be able to get some good footage on the new camera for next week.

Please join us here every Friday and link up with your own videos, we would LOVE
to see them.

▲ Home Movies - Film It Friday ▲

I have spent some time, when I should have been cleaning the house, perusing vlogs on You Tube lately. With such a plethora of professional, semi professional and amateur vlogs to choose from (vlogs are video blogs in case you hadn't figured it out lol), hours can slip by, because some of them are totally addictive.
My 2 favorite vlogers are

 Bits And Clips

And
The Shaytards

After weeks of debating with myself I have decided to try out a video feature on my blog, and hopefully do a link up with other brave souls, willing to come out from behind the keyboard.

Starting from next Friday, Valentines Day, I will be posting up a video here and adding a link up at the end.

So, if you feel like leaving your Valentine a video message on your blog, or showing us your children/pets/house tour/makeup tips/or local beauty spots, please upload your video to your blog and join me back here for the link up.

Just to get you in the mood, here is a very short clip of Oscar (in a wig and false glasses)

Isn't he just the cutest EVER

Have a great weekend
and don't forget to come back next Friday with your link.

A Bit Quiet

▲ A Bit Quiet ▲

Things are a bit quiet around here just now. But we are all fine. Christopher (my oldest son) came for dinner and asked 'what's new with you guys', and we had to honestly say, 'nothing'. It is entirely possible that we are being prompted to conserve our energies for things just over the horizon.

Oscar has been playing a lot of Minecraft (newly discovered).

We have continued with the family scripture reading each night, based on THIS and despite some resistance because it is cutting in to playing time, I think it is going down quite well.

I made this cake for the missionaries

Which being honest, is the first bit of baking I have done in a while. I was won over by the title of the recipe 10 MINUTE PINEAPPLE UPSIDE DOWN CAKE. It was really good with a dollop of cream.

I have been knitting and reading and watching You Tube videos and going up and down to school and cleaning the house and cooking and doing laundry. All very domesticated and not in least bit glamorous but I have been very much enjoying these quiet days with no drama, I hope they last a little bit longer.
