Covering

So, I have been trying something new for the past few weeks,
and I felt ready to mention it here on the blog.

A while ago I began to look into 'head covering'
from a Christian perspective.

There is an absolute tonne of information out there,
but here are a few of the places that I found
particularly helpful

And of course, the most compelling piece of reading

Authorized (King James) Version
11 Be ye followers of me, even as I also am of Christ.
2 Now I praise you, brethren, that ye remember me in all things, and keep the ordinances, as I delivered them to you.
3 But I would have you know, that the head of every man is Christ; and the head of the woman is the man; and the head of Christ is God.
4 Every man praying or prophesying, having his head covered, dishonoureth his head.
5 But every woman that prayeth or prophesieth with her head uncovered dishonoureth her head: for that is even all one as if she were shaven.
6 For if the woman be not covered, let her also be shorn: but if it be a shame for a woman to be shorn or shaven, let her be covered.
7 For a man indeed ought not to cover his head, forasmuch as he is the image and glory of God: but the woman is the glory of the man.
8 For the man is not of the woman; but the woman of the man.
9 Neither was the man created for the woman; but the woman for the man.
10 For this cause ought the woman to have power on her head because of the angels.
11 Nevertheless neither is the man without the woman, neither the woman without the man, in the Lord.
12 For as the woman is of the man, even so is the man also by the woman; but all things of God.
13 Judge in yourselves: is it comely that a woman pray unto God uncovered?
14 Doth not even nature itself teach you, that, if a man have long hair, it is a shame unto him?
15 But if a woman have long hair, it is a glory to her: for her hair is given her for a covering.
16 But if any man seem to be contentious, we have no such custom, neither the churches of God.

I have been covering in one form or another for a few weeks now.
I have not covered my hair totally,
and this is one area I am experimenting with.
I understand that scriptures can really be interpreted in many different ways.
I am also very aware of the controversy that surrounds covering,
and in particular how it is perceived by some as another
way of men's subjugation of women.
I believe in choice, and this is my choice, not my husbands, not my Bishops,
and not my churches choice.
This is something I am talking to the Lord about, and so far it has been all good.

Andrea from Wrapunzel advised me to always wear a velvet headband
under my covering, because it helps keep everything in place.
(they are for sale in her shop for US customers, see link above)

Today Writing This Blog Post

I seem to be sticking to the spotty scarf a lot,
probably because it is lightweight cotton,
and just the right length and width for me.
I have 3 scarves on order from ebay and they are very brightly coloured,
we shall see how they work out.
I expect some more plain ones like the spotty one will be useful,
especially white for summer.

Please feel free to tell me what you think,
(respectfully please)

Chazza Shopping Lately

Sometimes you find things that you are actually looking for,
and sometimes you find things you were looking for
months ago.
Either way, it causes a bit of excitement if the prices are good.

Silver plated ballerina ring holder, 99p - Save The Children
I have wanted a ring holder for ages,
but it was the cone type that I had my eye out for.
I love this one even more,
(I am still looking for a square ballerina jewellery box, circa 1970s)

Wall mounted telephone table, £3.50, Save The Children
(sorry about the crumby photo's, our hallway is very dark)
I have wanted one of these for years and years, and £3.50 is a fabulous price

Vintage Vanity Case £1.99 Oxfam
Again, I have wanted one of these for years,
They sell for silly money plus postage on Ebay,
so I have always resisted.
We have a little road trip coming up in 2 weeks,
and this will be just the ticket

Blouse £2.99 British Heart Foundation

I have been watching a lot of this lately -------->

(the first 68 episodes are on You Tube)
And I felt a bit like channelling an Angie Watts blouse, circa 1985
This blouse isn't vintage, its F&F but I really like it and that's the whole point.

I am sure there are a few things I have bought that I have forgotten
to photograph,
ah well,  I will get to them eventually.

Happy chazza shopping!
If you are so inclined

Happy May Day Resolutions

Resolutions

1. I resolve to seek first the Kingdom of God, and its righteousness with all my heart, might, mind and strength and with an eye single to the glory of God.

2. I resolve that in order to be happy and enjoy peace of mind through self-worth and self-esteem, I must establish goals and accomplish them.

3. I resolve to be dependent upon the Holy Ghost for guidance and direction. I must live to deserve this inspiration, and I must obey when prompted by the Spirit.

4. I resolve that my first priority is to care for my mortal body which was created in the image of God and through which Godhood is possible through the atonement of Christ.

5. I resolve that my second priority is to be a companion to my husband (if applicable), obey his council as he obeys the Lord.

6. I resolve that my third priority is to be a righteous mother in Zion.

7. I resolve that my fourth priority is to strengthen the family of my birth and the extended family members, and also the family of my husband.

8. I resolve that my fifth priority is to magnify my calling in His church.

9. I resolve that my sixth priority is to serve all mankind wherever I am able to serve.

10. I resolve that all priorities are interrelated and must be improved upon at all times.

These Things I Say, In The Name Of
Jesus Christ

Amen

Oscar decided he needed a new hat (for spring, it is Scotland after all).
I asked him what colour he wanted it to be (colour, single)
and he said, yellow, blue, and purple with a green pom-pom.
All very spring like, I am sure you will agree.

Reading

Well, I gave up on the bodice ripper I was reading a few weeks ago, because in the end, I decided it was too saucy for me.
I was in the mood for a good dose of fiction, but after the last book I wasn't sure what to read.
I decided I couldn't go too far wrong with a book about the Amish.
I was right, its fairly innocent in terms of hanky panky and the language is completely
appropriate.
Sisters Of The Quilt is a 3 book collection and I was glad I didn't buy them
separately because I am already a bit in to book 2.

The 2nd book is a non fiction book, and I am really loving it.
You can find the author HERE on her blog.
This book has really helped me overcome some of my creative blocks,
and so far I have -
Started a sketchbook journal,
Identified what I need to do to allow myself to draw/paint/sketch
Arranged specific times for me to 'work' (starting from next week)
And set up a work space (in my bedroom).
These are massive achievements. I cant wait to get started.

Garden

This Week In The Garden

We have two tiny little gardens at the front and back of the cottage.
We have not managed to do much with either side the last two years we have been here.
This year we are going to make more of an effort.
We moved the babies rose bush (which is looking decidedly un-lifelike I hope it picks up),
and all of our hanging ornaments to the front garden yesterday (on her birthday),
and we planted some flower bulbs.
I intend to go to Poundland and go crazy on seeds and containers and see if we cant get a petite little container garden going.
Oscar has started a container of his own :-)

And no, your eyes do not deceive you,
Oscar is indeed wearing a Christmas jumper
in April.
