I Bought Yarn, Oops
So there I was, strolling along in the sunshine and I accidentally fell into the wool shop, oh my goodness, how did that happen? So to back up a bit, sometimes you cant help yourself can you?
After I hit publish on yesterdays post, I went about my business of hoovering up scrambled egg and toast crumbs (what do you mean that's not good for my hoover? and ooh have I told you how much I love my dyson? oh I do love it so, even at that astronomical price). I could tell the postman was at the door because Oscar began jumping up and down like a flea and pointing at the door, he gets just as excited at parcel post as me. So what do you think the parcel was, for the woman with 18 pairs of new bamboo knitting needles, a new rocking chair and no wool?
Yeah, did you think I was going to say wool? No, instead it was 'Weekend knitting : 50 unique projects by Melanie Falick, Amazon link HERE Oscar was slightly disappointed it wasn't for him, but while I finished Dysoning, Oscar looked through the pictures (anyone who has seen the book, his favorite project was the egg cozies in the shape of little jumpers). Well goodness me, that was enough to put me over the edge. I had also promised to knit a matching hat as the mama and toddler slouch hats mentioned before, for Duncan. Duncan didnt ask for it by the way, when I put Oscar and mine on, he smiled and said, 'where's Daddy's?' I had a trip out planned anyway, so thats when I fell into the wool shop to buy some organic cotton blend in a lovely shade of blue for Daddy's hat.
Since I am doing another post on knitting (you would think I had nothing else going on in my life at the moment), I braved the mirror today and took a picture of my hat (see yesterdays post for Oscars).
Right, back to the knitting, em packing, no knitting, no packing.

A Post On Knitting And A Rocking Chair

Good Morning! No seriously, its a good morning, no rain today for the first time since Friday. I know that's only 4 days, but its 4 days in June. Whenever I start to moan about the weather though, it always reminds of The Big Yin (that's Billy Connolly to you), and his joke about 'Where do you think Scotland is? The Pyrenees? Mountain rescue are sick of rescuing tourists in khaki shorts and sandshoes.' Ahem, true true.
Anyway, the knitting. As I said yesterday I managed to knit a pair of hats at the weekend. It started out as one green and cream slouch hat for myself, but Oscar now has the impression that everything I knit is for him. In all fairness it nearly always is, but I promised myself this hat. So a deal was struck that I would make him a matching hat in a colour of his choosing, he chose yellow. Unfortunately I don't have any pictures of my hat yet (I couldn't face the mirror yesterday), but here is Oscars.
Mine is exactly the same but in green and larger. I made up the VERY simple pattern myself, I may put it up as a freebie PDF. Mama and Toddler matching slouch hat. If anyone would be interested?
Oh, and in case you are wondering about the yellow bundle in the background, its Oscars 'knitting'.
Oscar calls knitting, 'knitty knotty' can you see why?
So, while we are on the subject of knitting, what do you think arrives in the post on the day I have nothing to knit?
And what do you think comes home with a very kind husband on the day you want to sit down and knit with your new knitting needles?
Still, I did manage to make some curtains out of a single duvet cover for the new house . And that chair is begging for a new cover and back cushion.

Packing For A House Move
The packing and chaos continues. Don't worry, I am bound to get sick of talking about it soon. The problem is, one of my favorite phrases is, 'lets get organised' (only being knocked off the top spot by 'lets move the furniture around'). It seems that moving house encompasses both of these things, but I would never ordinarily tackle every room in the ho use at once.
Oscar seems to be coping with it all rather well, possibly due to the volume of empty cardboard boxes around the place. He is also enjoying snooping through the clutter coming out of the cupboards and the attic. He spent a delightful hour last night playing 'making tea' with my vintage Goblins teasmade.
Today I have a trip into town ahead of me. I woke up convinced it was sunny today, but I must have been dreaming in yellow because it is pouring with rain (again).
On the craft front, I finished a pair of hats yesterday, pictures to follow. And now I only have 1 knitting project to do, but I havent got the wool yet, because I am trying to be sensible with money. Ok, that really means, we have no cooker for the new house and its going to be costly. Since doing a few rows of knitting is managing to calm me down and give me a few moments thinking time, its almost mandatory to have something on the go. The solution? Sell your unfitting designer dress(s) on Ebay and buy wool with the money. Keep your fingers crossed my pink designer dress makes enough to buy 10 50g balls of Merino Aran for a special project.
And lastly, what do you do when you have another stressful day ahead of you? Isnt it obvious? You make wholemeal orange marmalade muffins.
In the shape of roses and hearts.

Pre Moving Freak Out
I came downstairs with Oscar this morning, both of us in a fairly good mood, only to be met with the chaos of pre moving. The bookshelves are empty of books but seem to be rapidly becoming a dumping ground. The dining table is covered in boxes and wrapping materials, there are flat boxes stacked in various places. All of the ornaments and most of the wall art are gone and Oscar's toys are bundled into one corner to make room for packing. In other words, a nightmare. I know it wont be forever (we are moving on the 17th June, you cant hear it but every time I say that date its followed by manic laughter). I know we have some pretty good reasons for moving (see this post HERE). But it hasn't been all bad living here.
We had a fairly good garden crop last year
We are also in close proximity to the beach here
And the shopping mall has a pretty decent Santa
And talking of Christmas, we have had 2 lovely Christmas's here
2009 and 2010
And we have all had 2 birthdays here. But this was always temporary. This was the house we moved to, to be closer to my Mum. My Dad had passed away 4 months before, and Oscar had been born 3 1/2 months before. It has served its purpose and now it is time to move on.
I am looking forward to making memories in the new place.

Napping Toddlers And Knitting
Its fair to say Oscar is one of these children/babies who don't like to sleep. He has gone to extraordinary lengths to stay awake, although sprinting around the bed is his most common tactic. He sings, shouts, whispers, giggles and 'pumps' and tells you he has 'pumped' in order to keep the vocabulary going and stay awake. He has very rarely just lay down and went to sleep. Today I witnessed one such rare occasion. He started out hiding behind the curtain in the dining room, where the sliding doors are. Then slowly he slid to the floor and lay in a chink of sun watching little white clouds puff bye on a blue sky (its fairly windy again). I watched as his body relaxed and slowly his eyelids closed. I carried him carefully to the sofa, kissed his sweet little head, and marvelled at the miracle of him.
On the crafting front, I have finished another (long), weekend jumper. I have to admit though, this one is a bit too heavy for spring/summer, even here in Scotland. I realised this once I had completed the back and felt the weight of it, so I knitted a few extra rows in the sleeves so it will last until winter. I am sure that the little splash of green and the memory of my boy falling asleep in the sun watching the clouds go by, will brighten up a gloomy winters day for us.
