29.07.2013

Yesterday my daughter Aimee was baptised in our church. Everything went perfectly and she had the most amazing day.

Yarn Along & Crochet Camp Week 2

26.07.2013

Crochet
This week is week 2 of KAT'S Crochet Camp. I have tried to crochet many many many times over the years and somehow just never managed it. Just before the release of Kat's beautiful BOOK Crochet At Play, I had another go at it with a You Tube tutorial and amazingly, it just 'stuck' that time. All I have managed to crochet so far are granny squares (I am fairly proud of them since I only learnt in April), so when Kat announced Crochet Camp and said it was suitable for beginners and FREE, well I was fairly excited.
Here is the tutorial for week 2 GRANNY SQUARE BUNTING and here is this week's effort

These haven't been blocked yet (which will probably help a lot), but I think they are very cute none the less, and looks very nice against my new lilac wall.

Reading

67

I have only just started this book so I cant really say if it is any good yet. What I can say is that it seems like an easy read and the author is a member of my church LDS. Here is the official blurb on the book.
"This humorous book about mothers in all their varieties is one woman's journey from devoted daughter to loving mother to non-wicked stepmother to well-intentioned mother-in-law to doting grandmother. Humorous and heartwarming, like a warm fuzzy pair of slippers with a lollipop stuck to them."

Thanks for stopping bye, have a wonderful weekend

To counterbalance the significant amount of moaning I did over the winter concerning the cold and wet, I thought I should make mention here, that it has been warm here. Hot even, one might say.  The sun has not always been in full view but it has been warm most days.
Oscar has been having a rare old time running around in not much clothes (the optimal dress code for any pre-schooler it would seem).

47
Still With The Wellies - It is Scotland you know!

We still have Oscar sleeping in our bed from the middle of the night to the morning, a legacy from co-sleeping. I love it when he climbs in beside us, does a contented little sigh and snuggles off to sleep. Mostly though we have all been far too hot and Duncan and I have spent a fair portion of our precious sleep time removing a restless boys limbs from our faces.

39

Today we will be sitting in a lovely air conditioned Cinema watching MONSTERS UNIVERSITY. Oscar has only been to the cinema a couple of times and he was a bit nervous of sitting in the dark. He also found the sound levels quite difficult to get used to. We are going with friends (mine and his) so I am hoping he will enjoy it more this time (it has been 5 months since the last time).  If only he was old enough to see THIS movie, which I have heard is really great.
Ack well, if he doesn't enjoy Monsters University we can come home and he can go back to his latest weather induced hobby, keeping an eye on the monstrous spiders (by Scotland's standards) who seem to want to hang out with us.

48
(FYI - Missionaries may be fearless when it comes to walking the streets, trying to share the Gospel, but it turns out that sharing a room with a huge spider, not so much lol).

Yarn Along & Crochet Camp

Crochet
This week is the beginning of KAT'S Crochet Camp. I have tried to crochet many many many times over the years and somehow just never managed it. Ok, so yes, its quite obviously not perfect, but you know, for a TOTAL beginner (I may be putting the term beginner to shame here also haha), I am fairly pleased with it. I am going to keep it as it is and marvel that I made something other than a granny square.
I am looking forward to next weeks project already. If you haven't joined in with Crochet Camp I would really say have a go, there is a Facebook Group as well as  Kat's Blog and the people in the group are very helpful and some of the crochet projects being show are AMAZING.

Reading
As predicted I am still reading my SCRIPTURES and also JESUS THE CHRIST by James E Talmage, so this week I want to show you a new recipe book.
I found this book pre-owned just 2 days after my most beloved Missionary ELDER BUTIKOFER left here for the next part of his mission. Elder Butikofer originates from IDAHO.

Its a funny old world sometimes is it not. Anyway, I bought the book because 1. I like to buy recipe books 2. I like to try food from different parts of the world and 3. It turns out there are a LOT of Missionaries from Idaho (we have had 2 different Missionaries visit this week and they were both from Idaho too).
Yesterday, the visiting Missionary had a look through the book and said, yes it is pretty authentic local food, so that made me happy.

The first thing I want to try is 'Old Fashioned Biscuits And Gravy', which I think, coincidentally, I saw a recipe for at some point on KAT'S BLOG. Although, maybe not all that coincidental since Kat was born and grew up in America too (Kat is from Iowa, which I do realise is over 1400 miles away from Idaho, but they are both closer to each other than they are to here lol).
I will keep you posted on how the Idaho cooking goes (Wynette, if you are reading this, pointers are very much accepted haha).
